SWIMMING CLUB.

A meeting oi' the committee of the Palmerston Nortli Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening. Mr 11. L. Young (the president) was in 'ho chair, and foven members were present. Messrs N. I). Stubbsi and C. P. Nash were present by invitar.-on from the Jewellers' Association, ami e:\pr.iined the details and conditions of the Association's presentation shield, to be competed for by the various luc.'ii f.rimary schools. Mr Stuhhs explained that the shield was to be swum for by relay loans of lour hoys from each school liinually. and that each hoy of the winning Unni would receive a silver medal. The distance of the •ace to be 400 ft, each boy to swim 100 ft. r Jhe date of the first race lias been 1(1- in the hands of the Palmerston North Amateur Swimming Club, who will control this event from year '<■> jear, under New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association rules. Mr Young heartily thanked tV Conors for their generosity and forethought in encouraging the boys in the noble art. of swimming, and assured them that the shield would receive the interest it deserved, and ere lony; become a coveted treasure among the younger fry of swimming circles. The Club vtrc about to enter upon another swimming year, and although they bad done splendid work last year they felt sure tiny ; would do better this in the way of teaching, and it was just such actions of kindness like the jewellers had shown that encouraged and spurred on the Hwimming teachers and coachers. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Jewellers' Association. A donation of £o to the Palmerston North High School towards the erection of a shower was passed for payment. ft was decided to hold the annual meeting on Thursday, October IS. when a full report of the year's work will be i given, ft will be ot interest to the public to know that over 100 children and adults were taught to swim last .season by members of the. Club in the High School baths.
