BABY VOTING CARNIVAL.

FLAXMJLLERS' BABY WINS. | Tho Baby Carnival was brought to l :i < ; lose at tho Opera House'lnst' evening, when the official prize-giving in ■conjunction with a grand finale concert took place. A fairly large audience assembled to hear tho final results, and ••xpeetatinn ran high us the time for ih?h: announcement approached. The first portion of the entertainment •consisted of a' concert programme arranged by the coimnitieo and contributed by well-known local artists, each of whom gave a contribution on behalf of one of the baby candidates. Those who contributed vocal items were Mrs Eii Ij. Broad (with violin obligato by M>".AI. Cohen), Miss Watson. Messrs H. Lylo (Sergt. John Bunny), Barttruni, 'Piz/.cy. and PH. J. Aitken, and y, clover character song was given by Master Roy Pratt. Mr hj. Jackson gave a Yiddish sketch, and Mr MansiieldV'Rlibbits" proved somewhat popuila'r, and earned the performer a recall. A-remarkably clever conjuring act was given by Mr pookson, the remainder of'the programme being filled in with items from Smith's Premier Orchestra. Tho accompaniments were played by Miss Rett, After the interval, the .screening of the baby photos took place, onch with its respective votes, and when the winning candidate's picture, appeared it was loudly applauded, the win tindoubtedlv being a most popular one. Baby McKee, the Flax Baby, winner of the'first prize, was also awarded the Glaxo trophy, a handsome silver cup. suitably engraved. After presenting the prizes, Mr J. A: Nash congratulated the committee on the splendid results of the carnival, and said it was hoped to clear £ISOO, about £750 of which would go to liquidate tho debt on the Campbell Street Memorial Baths, and the balance would be- given to the Patriotic Shop, to be devoted to soldiers' comforts. He also thanked all who hi d helped with the carnival, and especially referred to the untiring efforts of Sir T. H. Hodgson throughout the campaign, and to Air Warden for arranging the concert. IS, votes; Pitli, No. o, 3-141 votes; 13th, No. 2, 2691 votes; 14th, No. U, 1200 votes; loth, No. 13, 1199 votes. Special prizes, as follows, were also awarded, for highest, votes recorded at periods of the contest:—Baby Gibbons. -Mr Hodgson's prize: llaby Levy, Mr Oakley's prize ; llaby Donaldson, Millar stud Giorgi's prize; Ridley Twins, special prize; Baby Woodloyj Mr Couper's prize; Baby Wood. Watson Bros.' prize; special prizes from the counnittee were also awarded to Nos. 1, 9, 10, 11, 13, 18, 25, 27 and 29, all the entrants thus receiving a prize.
