Lieut. Roy den McDowell, who_ recently underwent a serious operation in Wellington Hospital, is now convalescent, and returned to Danncvirke yesterday. Sergeant Henry, of the Palmerston police, who has been confined to his home for the last week, is convalescent, and will resume duty in clue course. Mr J. K. Nathan, son of Mr David Nathan, of Wellington, who returned to England after serving with the Rod Cross on the Italian front, where lie was decorated with the Italian medal, has almost lost the sight of his right eye. My Nathan has now applied for a post, under _ the National Service scheme in Great Britain.

At the Tiritea school last, Friday an opportunity was taken hy the scholars to bid farewell to the head teacher (Mr JMcDonald), who is about to go into camp. Master E. Hart road an appropriate speech, and. on behalf of the scholars Miss G. Honoro presented Mr McDonald with a wristlet watch and a silver pencil case, wishing the recipient every success and referring to the good feeling that existed between the head teacher and scholars. Mr McDonald suitably replied Captain W. T.
