Coronata, who was purchased' for 220gn.s by Mr J. B. Reid at the recent Sydney sales, is a seven-year-old mare by Malstci — Do Aar, by Gibraltar from Bangle (imp.), by Barcalcline from Chatelaine, by Bend Or from Cluuioinesse.

Tbo one-time New Zealand sportsman, Mr Spencer Gollan, still keeps a few horses racing in England. _ Recently he has won four hurdle races with Saxon, a four-year-old gelding by Polymelus—St. Olive, by St. Simon. Saxon was bred by Mr J. B. Joel, is trained by R. Day at Newmarket, and is regarded as a coming champion. It is rumoured, strictly sub rosa, of course, that at a. south Island meeting quite recently some mistakes wore made, and that some animals won “that didn’t ought to have won,” as some turfites put it. There Is a. certain amount of soreness in usually well-informed circles in consequence. One backer tersely said, “Yo might have thought it, was Resurrection Day so many dead ones on me to light.” So far Killjoy's w innings in stakes since ho changed hands lust September at 5000gns, ran to over £6OOO. Even If the bay colt does not .win another race, lie proved a good purchase to Messrs W. G. Stead and A. S LuttreJi.

In connection with its nuhnnn meeting, the (Canterbury Jockey (Club’s contribution to the revenue in the shape of taxation amounted to £.5331 8s 6d. The Wellington Racing Club’s meeting resulted in a great triumph for Englishbred horses. The imported mare, Shrill, won £926 in stakes, placing Ids sire, Llnn2wn, second on the winning list to Kilbroney. whose stock won £l9lO. Next, in order came All Black £685, Downshire £4OO, and Rokeby £325, the most successful colonial-bred sires being Downshire and Delaware, each of whom wore credited with £230.
