PUBLIC WORKS' FOREMAN'S LAPSE.

(Per Press Association.4 AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. At the Police Point Thomas Wallace, Public Works Department foreman, was charged that, between March and November lasi, he stole moneys of the Department amounting to £127, and also with four charges of forgery of the names on receipts acknowledging the payment of wages to workmen. It was admitted that, owing to the Department being shorthanded, accused had a large amount ot extra work, much of which should have been done bv an accountant. Accused i,leaded guilty and was committed to tl;o Supreme Court for sentence. 1 stated that full restitution had been made. Rail was fixed in one surety of £IOO and two of £SO olcli.
