FIFTY VICTORIES ON THE SOMME.

(London Times' Telegrams). Received December 2. 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 1. A correspondent at British Headquarters says the Somme battle, measured by tho standard of previous wars, was really fifty battles and fifty victories. We took prisoner 80,000 men-more than the lighting strength of nine German divisions. Onco in July and onco towards the end of September the German military machine was perilously near breaking down. We never expected to break it here, but learned that it can be done. It is believed that the capture of Beaumont Mantel is, the most brilliant feat in tho Somme oll'ensive. and there has been nothing liner than the record of the overseas troops, including the extraordinarily successful lighting of New Zcalanders at Flcrs.
