FARMERS' UNION.
The usual monthly meeting of the local branch of the .Fanners' Union was held this morning. Present: Messrs J. Mo Leavov (in the chaii . J. Wingate, J. Balsillie, J. Chapman; JL Bond, and J. Barber. Messis D. It. Guthrie. G. 11. Smith and E, Newman, M.P.'s, wrote supporting the erection of a lime kiln in the Gorge. Mr Newman also forwarded a letter from the Minister for Agriculture, stating that the Government did not propose to erect a lime kiln in the Gorge, and suggesting that the Maun'ceville lime kiln be supported.— Mr Wingate pointed out that all that was asked was that the Union be allowed to help themselves and Ilia' permission be granted to put in a siding It appeared, however, that the Government was going to put obstacles in the way of obtaining a sidin. "This is the way the Government is helping the farmer.'' said the chairman. —The matter was allowed 10 stand over.
