FITZHERBERT.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) An enjoyable dance was held in the local hall last Friday evening, when the J Battery entertained the residents of Aokautere. The Hall wa g well filled, there being about thirty couples danc- ; ng, while there were a large number oi non-dancers engaged at card playing. Mr Ken Millar made an efficient M.C., and music of the best was supplied by Mr V. Liddle, extras being played by Mrs Castleton and Roy Scott (violin), and Mrs C- Petersen. During the evening the following gentlemen from the camp rendered items which were much appreciated by those present:—Messrs Garner and Perrin (songs), and Messrs Oram and Gardner (recitations). A very enjoyable time was spent, and tin 1 thanks of all- who attended the function are due to the members of the Battery for the kindly feeling which prompted them to entertain the local residents. There were a large number of residents at the camp on Sunday afternoon, the weather being perfect. A visit to the camp was made by many Palmerstonians as well as residents of the surrounding districts.
