The Dunlop Rubber Company has received advice to the effect that the Marshland Cycling Club of Christchuroh had, with its team of ten riders, covered 100 miles in the extraordinarily fast time of 4hrs. 13miu. 28sec.. which is upwards of 12 minutes faster than the previous record —4hrs. 26min. 3sec., by the South Canterbury (N.Z.) Cycle Club. These performances are in connection with tho Dunlop 100 miles relay teams' competition, open to all cycling clubs in the Commonwealth and New Zealand, and as the contest closes on the 30th instant, thero has been much activity amongst tho clubs this month to gain fastest time honours, and the rich prizes offered by tho promoters. The club registering fastest time will win £100; tho next fastest £so,' and the third on the list £2O, while there u> a special prize of £lO to the individual rider compassing his section (of 10 miles) in tho fastest time. Up till now, O. J. Senior, Perth, W.A., held the record in 25min. 13sec., but a member of the Marshland C.C., O'Shea, cut down tho figures during his team's effort to 20min. 42 2-ssec.. or nearly 30 m.p.h. This performance it may bo said is also phenomenal, and approximates the 6peed attained by Don Kirkham, when. 15 months ago he established a world's record in covering 25 miles on the road in 50mm. 30$ sec. Tho following are the'fastest rgistered in the relay competition, which also shows the positions of tho club:—l. Marshland Cycling Club (N.Z.), 4hrs. 13min. 28sec. 2. South Canterbury Cycling Club (N.Z.), 4hrs. 26min. 3sec. 3. Coburcr Cycling Club (Victoria), 4hrs. 28min. 13 25scc. 4. North Suburban Cycling Club (Perth, W.A.), 4hrs. 34min. Iscc.
