BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.

ITS FIRST MEETING. SOME IMPORTANT QUESTIONS. (Pei Prebi Amociatioh.) WELLINGTON, June 11. Ihe first meeting of the Board of Agriculture was held to-day. Mr Masscy attended, and practically laid down the programme for the Board's activities, mentioning noxious weeds, training of youn-' farmers, forestry, carriage of produce, im°provement of permanent pasture, shortago of farm labour, importation of stock, meat trust, fruit industry, discovery of phosphates, and obtaining cheap supply. The Board passed a motion of regret at tho death of Mr D. D. MaoFarlane. In the afternoon the Board considered tho details of its future work. As the members are more likely to be in Wellington at tho time of tho A. and P. conference in July, another meeting of the Board will be hold, and after that a conference will take place. A committee was appointed to confer with the Board of Governors of Lincoln College for the purpose of ascertaining if the two bodice can work together in the interests of rural education. It was decided that at its next meeting the Board will go particularly into tho question of the organisation of the Department of Agriculture and confer with the heads of the various branches of that Department. Further, tho question of forestry will be discussed with Mr McKcnzie, who is in charge of that work, and tho question of rural education will be gone into with Mr G. Hogbcn, Inspector-Gen-eral of Schools. Before its next meeting the Board hopes to pay a visit of inspection to the various State experimental farms so that thqso institutions maye be discussed.
