COUNTED OUT.
ANTI-MILITARIST LECTURER. HAS A BAD TIME. (Pib Pbiss association.) AUCKLAND, June 12. A crowd took charge of a meeting in the Devonport Hall last night, at which Reg. Williams, an anti-militarist, attempted to deliver a lecture illustrated by pictures showing war horrors. Fifty cadets, carrying rifles, marched in and occupied the three front seats. Williams was not given a hearing. The crowd pang patriotic songs and popular choruses, and the lecturer, persisting, was repeatedly counted out with shouts which shook the building, the cadet* keeping time with their rifle butts on the floor. One of the audience remarked: "Tho lecturer ought to be shot." Williams replied that ho was a rifleman, and invited any of the interrupters to adjourn to a neighbouring paddock. There was a chorus of shouts of acceptance, but the lecturer contented himself with another effort. Ho cut out his speech, but continued to show pictures, amid a constant din of singing, whistling, and stamping. Tho meeting ended in disorder, the crowd giving cheers for the Union Jack.
