There was fine weather for the opening clay of the Darmcvirke Racing Club's aut-l unin meeting, and a good attendance-. 1 Speculation was brisk, the sum of £15,063 being put through the totalisator, as against £10,071 for the corresponding daylast year. From a .rood start Percelcr led the field the first time past the grandstand, and on reaching ihe back straight Settler took command, f'irst. Consul last. On reaching the turn for home Kooya and Braeburn got on terms with Settler, and a fine finish was witnessed between the placed horses, Koova winning by a head, Braeburn a neck away third. The rider of Papalitz, shortly after the start, lost a lot of ground through the horse stumbling: ho made a splendid recovery, jeing almost over the horse's head, but managed to get back into tho saddle.
