ASHHURST.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr Frost has* dis]>oscd oi' his email dairy farm to Mr Sue: on of Paimerston. Mr Beggs has also disposed of his one hundred-acre dairy iann to Mr D. Davenport. Mr 0. Baldwin had the misfortune to lose four of his best dairy cows, through over indulgence in red clover. At the School Committee meeting, Messrs T. Hart (chairman), S. Feek. J. Craven, A. Andor*on and C Maunder being present, it was decided U> : write to the-Education Board ic sanitary grant due on January Ist, and to obtain a couple of loads of fine metal for boys shelter shod. Accounts amounting to £1 12s were passed for payment. The master's ro}>ort was as follows: The school re-opened on Monday, February 2nd, when the attendance was fairly satisfactory. The roll number now stands at 170 while the average attendance is 150. The attendance for 1913 was distinctly better than that of the year 1912, but notwithstanding the fact we are still understaffed, no doubt this is clue to a shortage of teachers. I would like once more to draw attention to the unsatisfactory state of the flooring in the'boys' play-shed. I am submitting a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent school picnic and it will be found that there is a credit balance of £3 ss. However, there are one or two accounts to be met by the School Committee out of the above amount. A vote of thanks was accorded the master (Mr Robson) for the efficient manner in which picnic arrangements were carried out. A vote of thanks was also- passed to the Ashhurst Band for their kindness in providing music. It was decided to make enquiries as to the right-of-way between the school and Mr Hardie's property.
