A man named John Lamont, a resident of Darfield, met. with a painful accident while walking homo along the railway line from Coalgate last evening. Hia foot caught in" some points and ho fell, the wrench breaking his leg. He was, of course, incapable of moving himself, and lay there aii night. At six o'clock this morning he was found by a passerby. The Darfield police were communicated with, and tho injured man was brought to Christchurch by the first train and conveyed to th« hospital. On the previous evening Mrs Johnston was canvassing in aid of church funds, and on making her way homo she had evidently fainted &nii succuml»cd. At tho inquest a verdict \*as returned that death had boon tho roauh of exposure caused bv a fainting fit, rendering the deceased incapable of g«tting assistance.
