MOTORIST PAYS DAMAGES.

WANG AN VI, Sept. 5. At the Supreme Court to-day R. Council proceeded against Mawao Tauri claiming £5Ol damages. The case arose out of a collision which took place on June 16th, when Connon was cycling to Castlecliff to see the warship New Zealand, and Tauri wan motoring to town from tho Heads.

Plaintiff said he was a single man. and supported his mother. He could remember cycling past the hospital, but he could remember nothing that occurred afterwards, as his mind was a blank as to the accident, the injuries to his head being responsible for the loss of memory. He was in the hospital two weeks with a broken should";'.

a fractured skull, broken arm. and other injuries, and he had done scarcely anv work since.

Other witnesses gave evidence as to the reckless manner in which Tauri was driving. Defendant, a licensed motor car driver. Raid ho was following closely behind a cab waiting an opjHirtunity to pass, and when the time came he quickened his pace to lo miles an hour. \\ hen he saw the cyclist he endeavoured to jj,o inrther oil tho road to give the cyclist room, but Connon struck the Mt side of the car, the one nearest the centre c.f the road. Defendant pulled up and rendered what aid bo could.

The jury returned a verdict lor plaintiff lor £l4O, and judgment was entered accordingly with costs.
