HEAVY CONVERSION?. As a supplement to tho Lands Report *hs Prime Minister presented a return purporting to *how up to June 30, 1313. the operation of the laud laws as amended kst year. There was no purchases of the freehold of renewable leases under tho Land Laws Amendment Act, 1912. up to March 31, 1913 (from January 1, 3913). Operations were confined to the purchase of lease in perpetuity holdings. These purchases >vere as follows, the number of purchases being given first and the area of acres in brackets:—Auckland, 8 731; 'Taranaki. 10 (1913); Wellington, 23 (3963; Nelson 3 (652); Mariborough, 3 (97); Canterbury. 4 (196); Southland, 23 (4052). Tho total purchases numbered 79. and the aree 11,633 acres. In tho same pc.riod the <enversiofcs to deferred navnu-nt rw confined to six blocks of l.i.p. land in Southland, which totalled 154.acre® 2 roods. The operations in tho next three months were decidedly more vigorous in every department. Tho grand total* up to Ju*o 30 from Janunrv 1 therefore showed t 243 transactions had taken place in this section. affecting 34,780 scree.

CONVERSIONS OF TENURE. Tho numltor of conversions to deferred payment for iho April-June quarter were as under, the area in acres beitijr given in parentheses:—Aucid.m l, 8~ (ISlo); Hawke'svßay, 1 (70); Taranaki. 4 (1058); Wellington. 4 (526); Nelson, 4 (11061; West land. 5 (917); Southland. 16. (1367). This gives a total of 42 conversion?covering 6933 acres.
