RONGOTEA.

(Fkok Otjb (Jtv* Coreispomdext.) A farewell social was tendered to Miss Trixio Sutton o;i Tuesday Inst, by the members of tlio choir oi St. Simon's and St. Judos, at the residence of Mrs Sandercock, "Waithoi." Miss Sutton, who is leaving for Wellington, lias for some time been officiating at the organ. During t.lie evening Mr Illingworth (the choirmaster), on behalf of members of the choir, presented Mi.--s Sutton with a handsome gold brooch as a token of their esteem. A very enjoyable evening was spent, dancing being kept up until the early hours. Quite a number of our local enthusiasts journeyed to Sandon for the Bull) Siiow on Wednesday Inst, and 1 hear that they an also likely to try Sexton on Thursday next _ Everything point l ? to very keen competition fit the local show, and the secretary informs me that enquiries are numerous from "pot" hunters, who have evidently got their eye on the challenge bowl. 1 lie Rev. Spencer, of Wanganui, representing the British and Foreign Bible Society, visited Rongotea on Sunday last, taking the morning service at the Methodist Church, and the evening service at St. Simon's and St. Judo's. The monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Tuesday evening, Mr 11. Turner presiding. The headmaster reported that the attendance for the past month had averaged 94 per cent, which is an improvement on previous months. The inspector's report for the August examinations was laid before the committee, the same beinor very satisfactory. Mr Kimo was congratulated by the committee on the good report, despite the drawbacks occasioned by the constant changes in the teaching stalT. The Palmerston concert party have had to postpone their visit until October, owing to the competitions in Palmerston taking place at the end of September. Mr Oliver has, however, promised something really good this time, so it should be worth waiting for. Mr Turner moved that Mi' Seddon's resignation be received with regret, and that the committee's appreciation of his services during the past five years be recorded on the minutes, lie said they would find it hard to replace Mr Seddon, as he had always taken a lively interest in educational matters and rlie general welfare of the school. They wished him every success in the future in his new sphere, and could only say that W'anganui's gain would bo Rongotea's loss. Mr Donkin was appointed to the position of secretary and treasurer, ho having held a similar position up the main trunk for several voars.
