Harrr Pearce, the sculler, is a passenger W the Orvieto. In an interview he said he did not like to make excuses for his defeat by Barry, but he .thought he would havo beaten Barry comfortably if he had not been seized with cramp in the arms after Hammorsriiith bridge was papsod. In his opinion Arnst fit and well would boat Barry. Paddon would have no chance unless 110 improved greatly in rough water work. Pearce is considering an offer from tho Yale University to act as coach for throe thousand dollars a year.
