POTENTIALITIES OF LEVIN.

SUGGESTED SITE FOR AGRIGTJ* TURAL COLLEGE. In the course of his speech in opening the Horowhemia Show yesterday Mr W. H. Field said that although the settlers had established a Show there the district was capable of greater development. They had-rich land still remaining in a state of nature, which should be available for settlement. The district was without some of the improvements to which it was entitled. He noticed a quantity of dairying land that was becoming covered by sand drift. He'hoped that the settlers would not relax their efforts to see that the Government would give them assistance in this matter. If this wag not done thousands of acres would become useless. They would have to give attention also to the importance of the train services. This coast would not progress as it should until there was a level railway line to Wellington; when that was accomplished they might feel that they were really in touch with the world. They wanted lands for closer settlement, and there were other requirements for which they had been striving for years. He advised the people to "keep on moving," and above all recommended the farming community to keep well in hand the matter of agricultural education. A little was being done in this direction at present—but nothing of a whole-souled nature. The present Government had the agricultural interests sincerely at heart and would tackle this question, but undoubtedly the proper location for a central agricultural college was at the Weraroa State Farm. ("Hear, hear.") The district was entitled to this. "Stick to that," add-d Mr Field, 'and I feel quite satisfied you will get it." In conclusion, he said that, although not its representative, he had not given up his interest in the district.
