MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Wanganui Education Board was held at the Board'.offices, at Wanganui, last evening, theio being present Messrs F. Pirani (chairman). F. M. Spurdle, G. H. Bennett. P. O'Dia. F. Purnell, A. Fraser. and Dixon. Leave of absence was granted Messrs Aldridge and Guthrie, M.P. Finance.—The Bank balance was reported as dr. £5647 7s 2d. The Chairman's report wa* adopted. Resignations.—Tho following resignations were received:—C. R. MorreTl, sole teacher, Owakura, M. Needham, probationer, Wanganui East: T. F. Relling. head teacher. Fitzherbert East; R. E. L. Davies, solo teacher, Pakihikura. Appointments^—The following appointments were confirmed: —Marton Side, Mis:J. Mountfort, second assistant; Manga weka. Mr M. A. Tremewan, first assistant; Bunnythorpe, Miss A. M. West, second assistant; Rongotea, Miss D. W. Argylo, first assistant; Turakina, Mr D. P. Tliuriston (Hiwinui); Hiwinui, Mr Bousefieid (Spur Road); Manaia. Mr Hewett (Turu kina); Ohakune, Mr F. Kibblewhir (Campbell street), first assistant; Campbell street, Mies West (Hunttrville). Leave of Absence.—Applications for leave of absence were granted as folio;;, s: A. W. Ross, sole teacher. Denlair, Ist April to 31st December. 1913. to visit England and America; F. E. Watson, head teacher, Campbell street, 3rd February to 3rd March; A. M. Brown, assistant, Kim bolton. 3rd to 28th February—illness; E. Murtagh. assistant, Wangachu, one week —death of nephew (without pay); A. H. Hall, assistant. Mangaftolti, 3rd February to 30th April—illness & mother (without pay-) Mr Hood reported on the enlargement of Rangiwahia school. He pro|>osed enlarging the school to accommodate 72 pupils, and painting, etc.. the estimated cost being £IOB.

A circular was received in regard to military training in schools, and was re ferred to Inspector Braik to report. Southland Education Boa. 1 forwarded a resolution passed by them re the transfers and appointments, and it was "received." The Education Department's account of £3C for auditing tho Board's accounts was discussed, and further }>aititulars are to I*? asked for.

The establishment of a school at Bainosso was referred to Mr Fraser and tho Chief Inspector. Mr Strong reported on establishment, of a cortral school at Tamnatatahi and Marohema, recommending that the Tauniatatahi school bo retained and the Marohema school made comfortable.—The report was adopted. The work of proceeding with the surveying of the site for the Makohino Valley school L> to be continued.

An application for establishing a school at Glen Cairn (five miles from Turakina) was received, and a copy of the regulations is to Ik> sent to the applicant. The residents of Whaka road are to be informed that the Board cannot, see its way to ask the Depnr : ?nt for i grant. An application was also received for a school at Motoroa. arid the. residents arc to be sent a copy of the regulations. The Government is to be applied to for a grant, of £6O for a sit« for school at Rotokare.

Bulls was granted £2 5s for cupboard. Mr Croft is to shift doors at Kelvin Grove.

A pump for the teacher's residence at Manutahi was referred to Mr Croft for n report. The School Commissionc is to be a>k<xl not to make use of school paddock at Pine Creek.

The question of a new motor cycle- for Mr Croft was deferred. Mr T. R. Hoddor agreed to act as the Board's representative on Palmerston North High School Board of Governors. An application iT to ho made for a grant for the enlargement of the Makotuku 6chool.

The matter of painting the Kaitieke school was left to the Boards painters. The Lytton street ;Fei!ding) school com mittee is to Ik> informed that there is plenty of room in ti*P> High School. Temporary accommodation is to be provided in the hall for the Campbell street school.
