A Sydney cable states that, the Australian estate of the late Mr George Rignold, the actor, was valued at £11,032.
At the meeting of the Sluggish River Drainage Board to-dav Mr E. J. Armstrong was, oil the motion of Trustees Amon and Mctauley, appointed engineer and secro tary to the Board from January Ist, 1913. The Wanganui Education Board, at its meeting last evening, passed a resolution condoling with the widow of the late Mr W. H. \ereker Bindon, headmaster of the Manaia school, and expressing the Board's appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr Bindon for the manv years he has been a servant of the Board "
Mr T. F. Relling, who has been headmaster of flie Fitzherbert East school for some years, has resigned his position in order to take up the study of law. Mr Relling has been deservedly popular in Fitzherbert, and residents will be sorry to lose him, and will wish him success in the work he is entering on. The Board of Governors has selected Mr Jas. Hall, 8.A., from Timaru, for the position of second assistant master at the High School. There were originallv ten applications for the post, and 'these" were afterwards narrowed down to three. Mr Hall obtained his degree at. the Roval University, Dublin, where ho had about five years' experience. After this ho spent two years in Canada, but. finding the wintens too long, he came to New Zealand. Mr Hall, who is a married man, has been acting assistant, at the Timaru High School for the last six months. An interesting gathering- was held in the Empire Hall this afternoon, when a dinner was tendered by the flaxmillers of the district to Mr J. Liggins. of Tokomaru, who recently returned from an extended tour of the Old Country and the Continent, and Mr Jas. Tennant. a miller who has disposed of hie interest and is retiring from the industry. Mr A. Seifert presided, and the guests of honour occupied seats odn either hand of him, while the vice-chair was taken by Mr E. L. Broad. The function was of the heartiest nature, and was attended by about fifty representatives of the industry. A full report of the proceedings will be found in to-morrow'e issue.
