HECTOR MEDAL.
PROFESSOR EASTERFIELD HONOURED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. The Hector Memorial Committee rejHirted to the New Zealand Institute today that they were unanimously oi opinion that the Hector medal" for 1913 should be awarded to Prof. Kasterfield. of Victoria College, Wellington, for distinguished work in connection with New Zealand produce, his work having a direct as well as an indirect bearing upon the scientific knowledge of the life and prosperity of the community. The recommendation was adopted. Prof. Thomson, chairman of the Award Committee, read a letter from Prof. Orme Masson expressing the opinion that' the original intention of the trust was to make the award for work done in Now Zealand, whether or not. It was decided to obtain a legal opinion as to whether the deed of trust, being in contravention of the report of the Hector Memorial Committee adopted by the Board of Governors, could bo altered.
