CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Tho ordinary monthly meeting of tho Council of the Chamber of Commereo was held last, evening. There wore present—Messrs 11. II ay don (in tho chair), G. W. Harden, A. M. Elliott, E. 0. Hurley, W. Dovino, R, Gardner, G. A. Preece andG. Hirsch (secretary, l . Apologies were received from Messrs J A. Nash, T. R. Hodder and J, M. Johnston. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received, from: Tho chairman of tho Taupo Totara Timber Co., Ltd., with a memorandum and map concerning the proposed development of tho Taupo district by tho opening of a railway from Taupo, joining tho Auckland-Rotorua lino at Putaruru. A detailed list of reasons wero enclosed as to why such a railway should be built.—lt was decided to write tho chairman of tho Company, staling that this Chamber was in favour of such a railroad being constructed, and would do all in its power to further wio movement. N.Z. Farmers' Union, Wellington, conveying resolution passed, asking for distinguishing mark on grain sacks, showing I different sizes of sacks.—Received. Mr Geo. Nelson, concerning tho Wailyn'omoana address given by him in Palmprston some littlo whilo back.- -It was resolved to have the address published, tho' matter being left in tho hands of Captain', Preece. Tfe British Imperial Council of Commerce,, with a report of inaugural meeting, and asking that a delegate be appointed. to represent tho Council at its meeting—lt was reported that Mr Tasker was present at 0110 of its meetings—Received. ( ! A firm'in Yokohama (Japan) 'desiring to enter upon business with New Zealand firms.—Received. \ GENERAL Tho chairman reported that ho, as the Council's delegate, had visited Wellington with the deputation, concerning tho Napier-Gisborne] railway, and a reassuring answer had fbcon given. As regards tfie urgent telephone system, it was deeded to write the Postal Department, asking them to reply to tho Council's request to proceed with tho system. { Accounts amounting to 7s 10d wero passed for payment.
