THE REFERENDA.
MR McGOWEN'S DEFENCE.,
(Bi ELtonio Telegbaph-Copirioht.) . 'Per Press Association.) , Received, May 9, 10.30 a.m.' LONDON, May 3.
Many London pressmen interviewed Mr McGowen, Premier of' New : South Wales. He assured them the result of the referendum was not.a slap in tho face of the Federal or State Government. He was confident that if another election was held either the Commonwealth or tho State Labour Government would be returned. In his opinion the' failure of tho referendum was largely duo to the people's caution aad desire' to understand more thoroughly the questions involved before making the change.
