MEETING OF PARISHIONERS.
The annual meeting of parishioners of S.S, Simon and Judo's, Rongotea, was held on Wednesday, May 3, at the Vicarage at 8 p.m. The Treasurer's , report showed a satisfactory reventte'from all parts, of the parish except Oroua Bridge, where' a shrinkage, probably temporary, had bop„n experienced. Tho overdraft iu the Vicarage account had been almost entirely removed, and tlie mortgage now stands, at about £390.
In moving the adoption' of the report, the Vicar {the Rev. H. Wilson) said that the past year had been marked by' an extension of services in tho outlying parts of the. parish, Services are now held regularly at Glen Oroua, Taikorea, Clydesdale, and Oroiia Bridge, as well as at tho Parish Church. There are four Sunday .Schools. The number of communions made was 287, as compared with 186 the previous year, and 175 the year before that, There had been 15 baptisms, as compared , with 34 tho year previous. The circulation of th# Parish Magazine has grown to 110 monthly, and. there , are demands in excess of that number;
Tho following officers were appointed; —Vicar's Churchwarden, Mr F. G. Soddon; Parishioners' Churchwarden, Mr Ji. Derham; Vestrymen, Messrs W. Davis, J. Gloyn, J. W. Hamlin, \Y. Bottcher, N. Ham, L. Vallender, and Hammond, eenr.; Treasurer, Mr E. Derham; Auditor, Mr C. P.' Wood. A vote of appreciation of tho long and valuable service to tho church of tho late Mr Wm, Taylor, and of condolence with Mrs Taylor and hor family was passed. A vote of thanks was,-passed to all tho voluntary workers of tho parish,- special mention being made of .&{> faithful work of the lay-readers, / A special , vote of thanks' was. also' unanimously" offered. to Penney, who has now left the parish after many years of earnest, work in tho most responsible offices, The Archdeacon of Rangitikei * (the Ven, C. C. .was present, arid joined in tho discussion of problems and prospects, encouraging greatly the local Churchmen by his wise Md sympathetic counsel.
At tho close of-the annual business tho returning officer, took the chair to receive nominations for the office of Lay Synodsman- in the Diocesan Synod for the next three years. Mr Edgar Derham was proposed by Mr J. Gloyn and seconded by Mr L. Vallender. As this was tho only nomination made, Mr Derham was declared duly elected, in accordance with tho Act.
