Queen Alexander has returned to-Lon-don after a health visit to the Continent. The Prince of Wales will be invested with tho Order of tho Garter on Juno 10. Mr J. B. MurraV was last night reelected chairman of,the Wanganui Harbour Board.

Mrs Reed (wife of the late Dr. Reed) and Miss Reed, who were residing for, a few years in Palmerston, but of lato have lived in Sydney, are at present en a visit to this town.

Two further-cases of appendicitis lave occurred in Palmerston during the present week. Tho victims are Miss Pole, who is now in a private hospital, and Mr W. The death is reported of a very old identity of Wanganui, Mrs Edward Hines, who had attained the ripe age of 85 years, and who, with her husband, who survives her, were among the pioneers of Bendigo, Gabriel's Gully, and the West Coast. Bickford, local manager of the Bank of New Zealand for fifteen years, was presented, at a representative meeting of settlers and townsmen, with an address and handsome souvenir as a mark of appreciation of his untiring services in advancing the interests of town and district. The presentation was made by Mr Hall, M.P. Mr and Mrs Bickford leave on Monday for England 'on a holiday tour. One of the native girls is at college and,is making good progress with her studies'. The funeral of Mr E."J. Riddiford took place at the Lower Hutt yesterday, and was attended by a largo number of relatives and friends of the deceased. The chief mourners were Messrs Vivian, Daniel, and Eric Riddiford (sons of the deceased), D. Riddiford (brother), and R. Riddiford (nephew), and Messrs 0. A., W., and E. P. Biinny. Local bodies and institutions represented were the Lower Hutt Borough Council, Hutt River Board, the University of New Zealand, Victoria College, and almost all the large companies, firms, and business houses of Wellington. Conspicuous among the gathering at the graveside was a party of Wair rarapa natives under their chieftainess, Niniwa Here. N(iia. ( Upwards of fifty wreaths and floral emblems were conveyed to the grave-yard in two carriages. They included one from the employees of each of the different stations owned by deceased.
