Armstrong, formerly chief draughtsman in the Lands and Survey Office at Uunedin. has taken up his 'new duties as Commissioner of Crown Lands for Taranaki. Messrs A. Parlane and D. Blackie, president and secretary respectively of the Wellington Drivers' Union, arc at present on a visit ,to Palmerston in connection with Union business.

Mr AY. D, Lysnar, Mayor of Gisborne, .is at present in Wellington, accompanied, by his medical adviser, for the purposeof consulting experts regarding somo trouble with his eyes, arising through overwork. The three doctors, after consultation, all agreed that one eye must be removed at once.
