DEFECTIVES.
SCHOOL TO BE ERECTED,
IMPORTANT MOVE SUPPORTED • BY EUGENICS' SOCIETY.
(Peb Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 24. A joint deputation from the Eugenics' Education Society and Hospital and Charitable Aid Board waited on tho Hon. G. Fowlds to-day and urged him to proceed with tho erection of the school at Otekaike for defective girls, ( Professor Benham congratulated the Government for passing several important Acts having bearing on the objects aimed at by the Eugenics' Society, and spoke at length in support of the object of the deputation. Mr Fowlds expressed hearty sympathy with the objects( of the Society. Before ho left for South Africa he arranged for a vote on the estimates for such a school, and hoped before- long tho building would be proceeded with. A collection of statistics relative to the family history of inmates of special schools must be done by officials of the various institutions concerned, but ho would bo glad to co-operate in the collection of statistics. In regard to the medical inspection of school children, he hooed before long something would be dono that would bo effective and not costly.
