(From Oor Own Correspondent.) 1 January 2. Mr and Mrs F. W. Venn returned from Wellington on Friday. Mr Firth, recently a flaxmiller of Wairoa, takes over the reins of management at 'Whitaunui, Ltd.'s big mill at Moutoa this week.

A quiet but pretty wedding recently took place at tho residence of Mr Spencer, senr., the "happy couple being Lily, his third daughter, and Mr George Booker, of Sydney. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Aitken, of Foxton, and the Rev. Patterson attended the bridegroom as best man, The bride, who was given away by her father, was prettily attired in a dress of white silk taffeta trimmed with chiffon, satin and embroidered sash. She was attended by her sister as bridesmaid. Mrs E. L. Richards, who wore a handsomo dress of palo pink silk voile trimmed with silk and lace. Both carried handsome shower bouquets. A handsome wedding breakfast was partaken of by the relations and personal friends of the happy couple, who were the recipients of many valuable and useful presents. Riflemen Shearman and Sutton havo returned from Wanganui, where they were right royally entertained by the Riflo Club of that town.

Mr J. Trainer, tho now assistant schoolmaster, who commences his duties after the holidays will, during the month, undergo a course of military training at Trentham, which will enable him to properly organise tho cadets at the school, who will probably receive their equipment at an eary date. Miranui mill has been provided with patent catchers to all tho strippers during the holidays. The mill will recommence operations on Thursday. Whitaunui, Ltd., will also start on that day.
