CAMPBELL STREET SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above committee was held at the school last evening. Present —Messrs 11. Palmer (chairman), Fraser, Gittings, Pickering, Clausen, Westmoreland, Allqian, and Swallow (secretary). Correspondence was received from the Education Board's Inspector, Mr Braik, informing the committee that the proficiency certificate examination would be held on Tuesday, December 6th, and asking the committee to supervise the examination, as the Board's Inspector would be unable to be present—The Chairman stated that the headmaster had received a letter from Mr Strong, inspector, stating he would conduct the examination, such letter being written after Mr Braik's request had been received, so that there was now no need to appoint a committeo to act as supervisors. Tho Wanganui Education Board wrote stating that Mr G. J. D. Skinner had been appointed truant inspector for this district. —Received. The 'headmaster's report showed the average~roll to be 705.8, average attendance 626.6, highest attendance 661, present roll 704, half days open 46. The school underwent the annual inspection on the 27th and 28th October last, but so far the official report of the chief inspector has not yet come to hand. For the recent A. and P. Show the school made the largest number of entries, and also received a very good share of the prizes, especially in the writing and colour classes. The miniature rifle range is now complete, and will be opened to-morrow afternoon.

The renort was adopted. A donation of £2 14s was ■ received from Mr A. J. Cobb, builder, and the secretary was instructed to forward the donor a letter of thanks. It was resolved to have the school front asphalted, the secretary and chairman to enquire as to the actual cost. Last month's visiting committee, Messrs Fraser and Pickering, recommended that two new gratings be procured for the school's main entrance, and the secretary was instructed to forward an application for same to the Education Board. Several accounts were passed for payment, including a refund of ten guineas to the school fund. The secretary reported that tho committee have now some £20 in hand.

Mr Westmoreland and tho secretary wore appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
