ENGINEER'S REPORT. • ' ' Fitzherbert Riding.—The team has' been engaged on the Pahiatua and Main road during the whole month, the roadmen working with them. The two-horse team will be sent to Linton at the end; of this week to attend to repairs'in that part of the district; our other team with the roadman will be sent to widen sorno places on Pahiatua. road. The Linton roadman has been engaged 19 days on - Scott's Hill road and five days on. Tokomaru road. Roadman in the centre, has been engaged on Tiritea road four days, River Bank four days, old road west five, days, and eleven days in Taonui. filing;, in charge of concrete culvert.'

Taonui Riding.—The team has been engaged carting metal to Kawau / Creek culvert, repairing Bunnythorpe-Kairanga . road, Rangitikei line, Maxwell's line and Foxton line. No roadman was employed on the roads. The Kawau - Creek culvert has been started and the cement work will be completed this week. In connection with this work, a plough had to be purchased and it will he use'd "'for the two ridings, Mangaone and Taonui. The other plough should be sold, being of no use for the work we have. The main chord of Mangaone bridge, Long- , burn, was broken by Mr Milverbon's traction engine, caused through the ehd blocks being rotten. At present the bridge is propped up, and is reasonably safe. The decking, that is. the under deck, is very much decayed. Tie top, chords are also in a bad state, but stilL the bridge can be propped underneath, so* as to last a- few years longer. Maiigaone Riding.—The teams have been engaged on Aorangi road. seven ■ days, Robert's line nine days, arid fillifigV in, Healy's corner the balance of the:time. : ~ .The watertables and other work required''* at Aorangi will be completed this; week.' ; ' With reference to metal carting at Eaihiwi it would possibly be better to leavo it till March, or April, and proceed with the summer work of re-grading, cutting and formation of Milson'e line. ' " CORRESPONDENCE. From J. P. Innes, with regard to .tho tree cutting case, Council v. Collins, in which the defendant had been fined ls ; — Resolved that the inspector take proceedings against those settlers with overhanging trees or hedges on the Council's roads.

From A. and P.. Association, asking Council to subsidise a class for exhibitor© showing the largest supply of birds' eggs. —This letter evoked much discussion, it being pointed out that the destruction of birds this time of the year would only, encourage the insect pest. It was filially resolved to grant three guineas towards this class, with a recommendation ; that all exhibits of eggs be destroyed. From Audit Department, forwardingthe balance-sheet for half-year ended 30th September, 1910, duly audited.—Received. From Napier Chamber of Commerce', with reference to Government's. Aid to: Water Power Works Bill. —Resolved to support the experiment of. testing a smaller scheme before committing themselves to so large a ischeme as Waikaremoana.

From E. Gasooigne, enclosing account and that he wished to give up lease of Awapuni reserve. —It "was decided to accede to the writer's request, providing he remitted all road rates and rents_ due, failing which legal proceedings will be taken. From J. Lovelock, asking that drain be cleaned out in front of his property, and that he would do the work for £2. — Referred to the Drainage Board foxtheir consideration. From H. Fabrian, applying for gravel to be put on road leading to his property. —Inspector was instructed to attend to the matter. From G. P. Skerman, drawing attention to state of road from Tiritea bridge to his property.—The Inspector was instructed to inspect this road and Tepair if necessary. From J. H. Burmeister, asking Council to replace flood gate on concrete culvert on Bunnythorpe-Kairanga road. posit© his property. The Inspector was instructed to-erect a flood gate -as requested. From Department of' Lands and Survey, that it had been decided to withhold the amount of timber royalties on section 3B Aorangi.—Received. GENERAL.- % The question of the at Loaigburn, contained in the Engineer's report, was left in the hands of the Engir. neer to deal with. ' It was decided to obtain from the Hospital Board the number of patients received in that institution from the Kairanga County during the past year. It was decided to carry out the resolution in reference to the removal of telegraph poles from the culvert formation at Linton. It was decided to repair the fence and erect gate with padlock at the Coun-> oil'spaddock at Linton. The question of the appointment of a Health Officer under the control of the Hospital Board, which was brought up for discussion at the last meeting of the Council, was again referred to, and -it was decided that the Council waive all responsibility in the matter of. appointing a Health Inspector, leaving such entirely in the hands of the Hospital Board. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
