The ordinary meeting of the Oroua County Council was held yesterday. Present:—Crs. G. C. Wheeler. (Chairman),; Hugh Burrell, W.G; Eearce, Thos. Rowling, W. Reid, and J. Vincent. ENGINEER'S REPORT.

Makino Riding. The holes on the new formation on Kimbolton road had been patched, and the sharp bend on the Mangaone road near the top /of the first, lull. Has been made easier. : . Taonui Riding.—The work of forming and gravelling the footpath* and filling in the hole at Bunnythorpe has been completed. The road round the block, at. Aorangi requires patching with about 5U yards of metal. . .>, Hiwinui Riding.—l have had the old culvert on the Gorge road replaced with pipee, and I now understand that the Gorge road is open for traffic. Otangaki Riding.—No extra work has been done in this riding during the month, the. roadman being occupied .with general maintenance work. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. The Chairman (C. Wheeler) reported that the Reu Reu road has at laet been declared to be a public road. For some years there has been trouble with the na. tives regarding the dedication of this road. The Council intends to proceed now to have the road formed, and, as a, Maori has placed a garden right across it, there will probably be more trouble. The Chairman also reported that the plane and specifications of the Menzie'e Ford bridge were in couree of preparation in the Public Works office. He aeked the Council for an opinion regarding the length of epans, and it was decided to recommend 60 feet epans as being the most serviceable. THE.GORGE ROAD. Cr. Vincent reported that the road through the Manawatu Gorge is open for traffic. A large mob of ; cattle for Hawke's Bay came through this morning. The road is in good order for the whole length. RESOLUTIONS. The following motions were agreed to: That the Council approves generally to the proposed procedure of local authorities under the Health Act, and appoint Crs. Pearce and Vincent as its delegates to the meeting to be held shortly. t That the road round the native reserve on the north side of the railway line at Aorangi be called the Turanga road. That the attention of the Inspector be called to the gorse, which is left lying about on some of the roade. That the Engineer be instructed to- commence the formation of the Reu Reu road at its junction with the Makino road, and that notice be sent to those persons who have erected fences across the said road to remove the same; ROAD ROLLER. The Chairman presented a report on the recent experiment with the steam road roller, spoke very much in its favour, and proposed that steps be taken immediately to purchase a roller arid grubber. The motion was seconded by Cγ. Rowling. Cγ. Pearce spoke in favour of the motion, Cγ. Reid supported it after being assured the cost would mot be too great, and Cr. Vincent spoke of the good work done at the experiment. The motion was carried unanimously; TREASURER'S REPORT. The County Treasurer presented the following report: — Rates levied 1909-10 £4788 Iβ Id, outstanding £8715e2d; levied 1910-11 £4839, collected £1143 18s Id. Bank balances: General account, dr., £2530 13s 10d; • interest account, dr., £580 8e 7d; Gorge Bridge account,- dr.. £804 4s 4d.
