OROUA BRIDGE.
The farmers in this district have nothing to complain of so far as climate is concerned. We certainly have not land so rich as the Kairanga people, but ours is preferable for the reason that it is a warm country and stock do better. Dairying is carried on under excellent conditions and any farmer who settles here will not regret his decision. Mr W. Seifert, who has* leased Mr W. Smith's flaxmill, is turning out a large quantity of fibre daily, far more than his predecessor. There must be something in flaxmilling, as I notice that the flax is cut in the Kairanga, it is carted to Karere, then railed to Oroua. Bridge, and aftor going through the mill a part it is carted a mile or two away to Mr 11. Simpson's'property for bleaching purposes. There is a fine lot of fibre drying on Mr Simpson's land at the present time. The euchre club is in full swing and
the games that arc to eventuate promise to be keen and exciting. It is stated that the , club and mill hands meet in competition this evening. Owing to the splendid season experienced and increased prosperity several farmers are carrying out improvements to their properties. The roads in the Oroua Bridge district are in grand condition. That known as the Half-Crown, which was a quagmire some years ago and most difficult and dangerous to negotiate, is now a well-formed, splendily metalled road. It is a credit to the Kairanga County Council. Mr W. Milverton was the contractor, I believe, and he undoubtedly did his work well. The run to tho Bridge and back is now a favpurite one with motorists. i
