Received April 13, 9.40 a.m. | BERLIN, April 12. ine police here have discovered that a man who was formerly a chimney sweep is organiser of an international 8 11 . n %, of hotel thieves. He began by utilising his chimney-climbing powers to - enter hotels and afterwards organised a band of thirt} 7 actual thieves, besides 3 agents and receivers. ' This gang was responsible for the robbery of £24,000 worth of jewels from the > Grand Hotel at Genoa on July 7, 1908. 1 Seventeen arrests have been effected in. different Continental cities. > The Berlin police estimate that £200,000 worth of plunder was obtained between ' 1902 and 1907. >
