Briand, presiding at a banquet of a thousand constituents _at St. diamond, unfolded the Socialist-Racli-' cal majority programme,.including income tax, larger electoral areas, lengthening the period of the Chamber of Deputies mandate by a periodical renewal of only one-third of the Chaml3er. A Bill regulating position of State servants by the elimination of all possibility of injustice. With such guarantees they attempted to resort to a movement of revolt capable of imperilling nations with vital interest. Two hundred Collectiviste and Socialists outside the meeting place smashed the windows and came into violent conflict with the police. They stoned M. Briand and his supporters when they were quitting the hall. M. Briand escaped unhurt.
