Mr R. R. Martin, organiser of the Reform Party, was a passenger by the Napier train for Wellington this afternoon. The only New Zealand mails on board the Pericles were of the 18th of March for South Africa. There were no United -Kingdom or Continental mails. The Rev. Bates wired to-day: There are indications for winds freshening again shortly, westerly strong to gale, jyeather cool and changeable, rain probable, glass fall. The only case to occupy the Court this morning was the unfinished case. Police v. H. S. Munro, hotelkeeper, of Foxton, for an alleged case of permitting drunkenness on the premises. After hearing the evidence of defendant, Mrs Munro, Messrs A. Robinson, D. Macdonald and Dr. O'Brien for the defence, the Magistrate, Mr A. D. Thomson, dismissed the case. Under the new system the Post Office officials arc prohibited from advising telephono subscribers of the cost of bureau messages until the regular monthly period arrives for the account for the past month to bo rendered. It sometimes occurs that subscribers desire to know immediately the cost of using the telephone when persons in other localities are spoken to, and we are informed that on application being made to the local post office for the amount, of the fee they arc courteously informed that it is against the regulations to disclose the information until the account is rendered at the end of the month in the prescribed way. Those telephone subscribers who are affected are irritated at what is believed to be an absurd regulation. A CHALLENGE. I J AS.
