As a result of further reports received from Hokowhitu after one o'clock eeveral bodies of police proceeded to tho vicinity of the Governor's late residence, it having been stated that Powelka. had been seen in the grounds attached to the house. There were numerous civilians with the police and their numbers were augmented by sdarchers already on the scene. Parties went into the paddocks and grounds all about there from the Fitzherbert and Te Awe Awe street frontages, whilst other parties worked from Scandia street and the Polo Grounds. The whole of the country was subjected to a most thorough search, and it was etill being continued at 3 o'clock. Closer to town, in the stretch of ground between Avenue road and To Awe Awe street searchers were out also, all the raupo, live hedges, outbuildings, etc., being subjected to a very comprehensive scrutiny. Nearly everyone was armed, some with fowling pieces, others with rifles and revolvers. The proceedings Were watched with evident interest from the road by numbers of spectators, who followed the course taken by the police and the rest of the search party. This afternoon two patrols of Woodvillo Riflemen, under Liout. Wardrop, set out to search the Ruahine Ranges between Woodvillo and Ashhurst, and they have arranged to report themselves at Ashhurst at a fixed time. Sergeant Cruickshank, of the Danncvirke police, arrived in Palmerston today to assist in the Powelka search.
