The Standard, Spectator, and other papers state that moderate Liberals are objecting to the King on the eve of a dissolution being asked to give assurance that he will create new Peers if the Liberals gain the victory at the election.
The Master of Elibank, speaking at Manchester, declared that a crisis would arise from the hour when the Government was notified of the Lords' rejection of the first veto resolution. Shelving or other subterfuge would be equivalent to rejection. Both the veto resolutions and the Budget were essential.
