SECOND EDITION. A SCATHING RESOLUTION.
(Per Press association.l CRITICISING A SOLICITOR. (Pee Peess Association.) HAWERA, April 9. A mooting of Ilawora solicitors this ■ morning resolved: "That the Hawera legal practitioners unanimously desire to place on record, their distress and indignation at the'absence of proper gentlemanly feeling exhibited by Mr Wake . in addressing the Magistrate, Mr. Greenfield, at Eltham, on Wednesday, and express amazement that any member of the profession should be found to willingly, deliberately, and wilfully address in the terms he is reported to have done one who, in addition to his venerable years and invariable courtesy, possesses the confidence of the profession and public as a just, honourable, and in every sense capable Magistrate." Mr Greenfield is taking the place of Mr Kendrick, who is absent on sick leave. Mr Wako is reported to have said in Court he quite realised that the presence on the Bench of a gentleman of his Worship's ago, must entail a good deal of sacrifice on his part. With all due respect, Mr' Wake wished to say he ' did not think a gentleman of Mr Greenfield's age should be asked to discharge the important duties appertaining to the * magisterial office. He felt himself in an - awkward position, but was going to ask ■j that all contested cases be allowed to 5 stand over until Mr Kendrick's return. t He made these remarks only from the t point of view of the public interest. He asked his Worship to listen to his pro- \ test, and allow such cases to stand over 5 until Mr Kendrick's return.
