ENTERTAINMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. The management of the ThompsonPayne Picture Company promise tho people of Palmerston something above the ordinary in the way of pictures at the Opera House to-night, when they will present an entirely new programme of all the finest pictures procurable. The star film is one of the American Biograph's latest subjects entitled, "The Rocky Road," which has never failed to give satisfaction wherever shown. Another beautiful dramatic study is one of the Vitagraph Co.'s high art films, "The Way of the Cross," which will ben suitable for both old and young. Lovers of scenery will be well catered for in this programme and should not fail to see the river Rhino in living natural colours from Cologne to Bingen. There will bo also a fine industrial picture showing the iron kingdom and the process which iron undergoes before it a.s finished rail. The funny cuts in this budget are exceptionally funny, and tho audience will have to laugh whether they desire to do. so or not when they see the "Golf Maniac " The programme on the whole is tho finest yet presented, by the wellknown firm.

HAYWARD'S PICTURES. There "was a satisfactory attendance at Hayward'e Pictures last evening, the Zcalandia Hall being splendidly lighted as usual, a feature being the searchlight, which was seen in all parts of the town, and it quite an attraction in itself. Mr Hayward's employees have transformed the interior of the hall and made it very suitable for picture entertainments. The public are provided with comfortable seats, and the requirements of everyone are well catered for. The programme presented last evening was greatly enjoyed, especially the dramatisation of part of Victor Hugo's work, "Les Miserables," dealing with the "Galley Slave." interest in the- clever conception of the author's ideas ' being well sustained. Other pictures were appreciated, as was evident by the loud applause. The present programme will be-" repeated to-night.
