Forty, of the late Charles Yerkees' pictures were sold at auction at New York and realised £134,000, including Mr Duvcen's purchase of Turner's picture "Rockets and Blue Lights" for £25,800. BERLIN, April 8. The German shipping lines have reduced the surtax on frieghts to Australia; by 5s on Class 1 and 2s 6d on other classes per cubic metre.

LONDON, April 8. The final result of the ballot by the South Wales miners was 97,273 votes for and 34,963 against the acceptance of the proposals for a settlement.

Half a dozen self-appointed and selfstyled Imperial missioners from Canada, South Africa and Australia are addressing meetings in England on Imperial preference. They do not seek the support of the political organisations and do not claim to be acting in 'a representative capacity. They promise to undertake a revival like a religious revival
