A FRENCH STRIKE.
PAID AGITATORS
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Per Press Association.) PARIS, April 7.
In connection with the naval reservists' strike, French bluejackets, by replacing the stokers, enabled a few mail boats to leave Marseilles.
M. Cheron, Under-Secretary for the Navy, continues, to harangue the strikers, but nevertheless, the steamer Caledonian and thirty other vessels have not sailed.
Strike paid agitators are persuading the reservists to make a grievance out of the retention of a few dozen Lascars in the service of various shipping companies, according to the agreement whereby ship-owners arc entitled to include aliens to the extent of one quarter of each crew. The Maritime Court at Marseilles has sentenced ten stokers to ten days' imprisonment for leaving their ship. Accused stated they left upon the Union's orders, fearing personal violence. Proceedings have commenced against five hundred others.
