CHARGED WITH STRIKING.
SOUTIIDOWX FREEZING WORKS TROUBLE. (Per Pukss Association.) _ AUCKLAND. April 6. The slaughtermen and floor hands at the Southdown freezing works who went on strike the other day have been served at the instance of the Labour Department with summonses charging them with striking.
The men slaughter meat only for export, not for domestic consumption in New Zealand, and thus escape coming under the provisions of Section 9 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act, 1908, which provides for higher penalties than Section 5 of tho Act. under which tho charges against them are laid.
