FIDE AT NELSON.
(Pee ,PrtEss Association.]. NELSON, April 5. Shortly after t'ureo this, morning a twostoryed seven-roomed house- in Vanguard street, owned by William Childs, and occupied by William Stanley, soapmaker, was gutted by fire, presumedly from tho explosion of a kerosene lamp, which.- had been left burning. Very little was saved, but the surrounding buildings vvero undamaged. The family, which hivd been absent camping, returned only yesterday. Insurances: —House, £100 in the New Zealand office; furniture and effects. £340 in the 'State office, including £90 on tho manufactured soap.
