The civil case Aaron Passey v. W. B. V. Pearce, a claim for the return of the two bullocks alleged to be stolen, or their value £14, was continued at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Defendant counter-claimed for £11 10s damages on account of the sale by plaintiff of two bullocks belonging to him, one in April, 1909. and the other in October, 1909. Further evidence was taken and the case was adjourned until next Tuesday; Mr H. G. Moore appeared for the" plaintiff and Mr H. R. Cooper for the defendant. As will be noticed in another, column tenders are invited for renovating the Occidental Hotel. This hotel is now under the control of Mr Win. Hunter who is well and favourably known throughout the Wellington and Marlborough provinces, ho having successfully conducted hotels in other towns prior to taking up his residence here, lno tenders now being invited are part of a scheme for the complete renovation of tho hotel, which will be furnished and htted up to modern convenience for visitors and the travelling public. Perhaps the most foolish development of the "Marathon" craze is that reported from Butte, the well-known American mining town, where 53 men and as many women took part recently in a "Marathon waltz contest." At first the spectacle was exhilarating, but before long the strain began to tell. One woman dancer was seized with muscular paralysis, and had to be hurried to a hospital, where she was joined soon by another competitor who had ruptured a blood-vessel. After the dancing had been going, on continuously for 14 hours and 41 minutes, the Mayor of Butte, acting on medical advice, used his authority to 6top the performance. There were then three couples left in the arena.
