TWO THOUSAND POUNDS CLAIMED.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 16. Before the Chief Justice to-day, Robt. Bcrtling, superintendent of the Wellington Zoo, claimed £2000 from John Norton, proprietor of Truth, for alleged libel. The case was tried before a. special jury. Defendant, denied that the words complained of reflected on plaintiff in his occupation, or had been published falsely or maliciously, or were libellous or defamatory, and that in their natural ordinary signification they were true in substance and in fact. It was stated that an apology, had been published, which was said by plaintiff to be no apology at all, but a case of adding insult to injury. The case is* proceeding.
