SIR GEORGE REID.
WELCOMED IN LONDON. •

At a banquet given by the "Colonial Institute in honour of Sir George Reid, 278 guests were present. It was a brilliant and representative gathering. Amongst those present were Lords Rosebery, Beauchamp, Strathcona and Ranfuriy, Sir H. Rawson, Messrs Sydney and Fowel Buxton, Talbot, Moore, T3edford, Herbert Samuel, Bowden, Smith, General Hutton, the Agents-General of the colonies, Sir Charles Lucas and Mr Pearson.
Lord Crewe presided and proposed Sir George Reid's health. He welcomed him as a statesman of long and varied experience, a skilful and accomplished orator and a thorough man of affairs.
Sir Georgo Reid, who mot with a most enthusiastic reception, replied in a brilliant speech. He said he thought it his duty to put aside private sorrow nad to obey the call of public duty. He thanked Lord Crewe for the honour done him by presiding over the gathering.
