Wirokino Riding.—l am getting the Muhunoa East road widenod from the creamery back towards tho railway station at Ohau. a distance of something like 40 chains. There was a sum placed on tho estimates (£6O) for it, but half of this will be sufficient, to do all that is necessary at the present time. The contractor for the Foxton road metalling is getting on well. If the weather is favourable another eight days will finish. The Straker is running metal to the Plaka and Koputaroa roads; there is ample room to keep going for another three months. Cr. Stepherison, with myself. arranged with Mr Easton, of Foxton, to construct the floodgate and culvert at tho outlet of tho Koputaroa and IVackley creeks for the sum of £170. We arranged to use concrete in place of timber for the bottom of tho culvert; it reduced the price about £8. and I am sure will make a. much better job. Mr Easton expects the material on the ground in a dav or two.

Tokomaru Riding.—A phenomenal rain fall on the evening of the 26th ult., oi:

the ranges at the back of Shannon, caused a very big flood in tho Tokomaru and Otauro streams. Between them they carried a.wav three small bridges on the Tokomaru Valley road, one on tho western or Shannon side of tho range, and two on the other side. It will be necessary to re-erect the one on the Shannon side as soon as possible to enable tho

settlers to get stores in ; the others can

stand over. I have arranged to make a six foot track to allow horsemen to Grot through. The bridgo on the Shannon side was constructed of jarrah. I will send tho surfaceman along the river-bed to pick up as much as possible; in fact, the whole of the timber should be cot unless buried up in tho debris. The

clearing and stumping of Wilton's road

has been done. I will get it formed in a few days, "or as soon as the horses are available. I am much afraid the Tokomnru streets will be in the same bad state as they were in last winter, unless tho Government - lending department comes to light scon. The worst of the Tokomaru ronds is that they hold the

water so long that it is impossible to

get on to them. I hope to be able to call tenders for the expenditure of ihp Government grants, to be in at next meeting.—Adopted.

RESOLUTIONS PASSED. Watson-Freeman —That loave of absence be granted Cr. Windlcy from this

meeting. Prouse-McLeavcy—That the action of the southern members in appointing William Ingloy to the position of ranger f or the Otaki and To Iloro ridings be confirmed.

Freeman-Tornpsitt—That the ranger be put on all roads under the jurisdiction of this Council on and after Mondav, 21st March.

Venn-Stephenson—That Mr Greig bo granted permission to lay a tram along the side of Toe Too street. Tokom'aru, to remain during the Council's pleasure.

Yenn-Stcphcnson—That this Council's surfaceman be instructed to disconnect trailing logs or other articles attached to wandering «tock.

ltichards-Prousc —That the Engineer bo instructed to prepare an estimate f or providing water to the Arapaepae subdivision.
