THE WEDNESDAY COMPETITIONS The fine weather produced another pleasant afternoon's cricket yesterday, when two games were proceeded with. High School coming out again after the vacation to meet Phoenix A, and City finishing off with a win against * Phoenix B. PHOENIX A. v. HIGH SCHOOL. The School were unsuccessful in the toss, and went into the field, and Boon and Burgess opened for the A.'s. The former was disposed of in the first over by Mcßae, and Burgess and Eyre then made a stand, the latter scoring steadily and freely, while Burgess played a careful game. Evre had compiled 46 before Pegden howled him, and Burgess made 19 before falling a victim to Hodder. Cockroft, the next man, made 13, but the remainder failed to stand up to Pegden, Hodder and Munro, and were all disposed of for 95. Young and Bennett for School, and both got into double figures before leaving. Foote was the only other player to ■make runs, getting 19 by steady play. When stumps were drawn six wickets were down for 66. CITY v. PHOENIX B. Phoenix B. with 104 to make to win, opened the second innings, but with the exception of Donald and Kerslake, who scored 17 and 19 respectively, none of the. batsmen were able to stand up to Turner, who got •7 wickets for 22, and the innings closed for OS, leaving City winners by 36 runs.

MAN AW ATI! CRICKET ASSOCIATION. Tho Association met last evening, Mr F. E. Watson presiding.' It was decided to piny Taumaranui at Palmerston on the 26th March, but Wairarapa's request for a game at Masterton was not considered, it being decided to reply that Manawatu went to Masterton last time a game was played, and it was therefore Wairarapa's turn to travel. Feilding Swimming Club's request' that tho matches next- Saturday be postponed on account of the swimming sports was not agreed to, the Association regretting that so many postponements of matches this season made another one impossible. Phoenix Cricket Club .were suspended from participating in the Association's fixtures until such time as its dues are paid. The School fixtures and all arrangements for samfie were left in the hands of Messrs C. H. Warden, F. Footo, and W. Lyon. Tho fixtures for second round of the senior competition were drawn as follows: — Saturdays, 12tl) and 19th February. —Old Boys A v. Old Boys B. Feilding v. United, at Feilding. Saturdays, 26th February and sth March.—Feilding v. Old Boys B, at Palmerston North, Old Boys A v. United. March 12th and 19th.—Old Boys A v. Feilding, at Feilding. Old Boys B v. United. The junior fixtures .for next Saturday were drawn as follows:— High School A v. Longburn. High School B v. Old Boys. THE AUSTRAI/lAN MATCH. A letter was received from the N.Z. Cricket Council instructing the Association to arrange accommodation for the Australian Meven at Mr Devine's Empire Hotel, and instructing that the Association should have a free hand in the match arrangements, and that any sum realized after payment of match expenses should belong to the local Association. The Council also acknowledged receipt of the £7o sent forward as a guarantee for the match with the Australians on the 16th and 17th March. It was decided to bat 13 and field 11 against the Australian Eleven, if no objections were made to this by I the visiting team. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Warden. Eyre, and Oakley were appointed to advertise the match, Australia v. Manawatu. The practices of those members who have been picked by the Association's selector (Mr S. Greer) will be resumed on Thursday evening next, and the selector will be present at such practices, and it is hoped that those members who have been nominated will present themselves on the Tuesday and Thursday evenings. It was decided to meet again next Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the usual place. . ARRIVAL OF THE AUSTRALIANS. (Ped PnEfs Association.! . WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. The Australians arrived this morning by the Moeraki. Accompanying the team is Major J. C. Wayne, who was the manager of the first New South Wales representative accredited team to visit New Zealand, also Mr R. T. Kelly, of the Waverley District Club. They wished to practice to-day but no ground was available. The team consists of Messrs W. W. Armstrong (captain), D. Smith and T. S. Warne, of Victoria; W. Bardsley (vice-captain), C. Kellaway, C. E. Simpson. S. H. Emery, A. J. Hopkins and C. R. Gorry, of New South Wales; E. R. Mayne and W. J. Whitty, of South Austrajia; and N. Dodds arid A. C. Facey, of Tasmania. The match against Wellington starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Monday. ,In the Wellington team Laws replaces Hawthorn, who has dropped out.
