(Pee Press Association.) EKETHUNA, Feb. 8. A sudden tropical rain fell at 5 o'clock last evening for about ten minutes. The gutters and spouting were unable to carry the water, and several shops were flooded, damaging | the goods. The water was blocked at j the culverts and in the centre of the town for about half an hour. INVERCARGILL, Feb. 8. At the Police Court this morning Margaret McAuliffe, against whom there were several previous convictions, pleaded guilty to having liquor for sale in Invercargill, a no-license district. She wae convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Nona Thompson, for assisting the previous accused in the commission of the offence, was ordered to come up for sentence when call- ] cd upon. Roderick Bisset, brewer's carter, was also charged with assisting MsAuliffe in delivering beer to fictitious persons supposed to lodge in the house. He was fined £15. E. Joseph Lineon and Con Lindsay, who were found on the premises, were each fined £2. WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. At a meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennie Association last evening a proposal arising out of an Otago request to establish a South Island championship was negatived.
